In this lesson, you will gain insights on why you need to develop an ideal buyer customer persona or avatar. That it is the first lesson in the series signals the importance of this grasping this training and completing the assignment of creating your collector avatar.
A customer persona, or avatar, is as close to a real person as you can imagine. It is an ideal composite of demographics, psychographics, characteristics, habits, and behaviors of many people.
The more you know and understand who is your ideal buyer, the less time and money you spend on marketing to those who are unlikely to buy your art. You only need a 100 - 200 loyal buyers who purchase your work directly from you in order to sell the majority of your work to people who know you.
Study, absorb and apply the lessons here to begin building a base of direct buying customers who will stick with you throughout your career. Doing this takes away from the pressure and worry that are part of dealing with third party distribution channels whether a gallery, dealer, publisher or agent.
You may still want to sell through third parties. Now, with your own client base they become less important to you and you become more important to them.
